“Wednesday’s inauguration brought not just a sense of a new beginning for a beleaguered nation, but a new approach on vital issues of public policy. Highest in importance, even outstripping the coronavirus pandemic, could be a real effort to fight climate change, which took a symbolic first step with the nation’s rejoining of the Paris Agreement on President Joe Biden’s first day in office.
Cutting emissions is a global effort, which highlights the importance of the Paris treaty. But there are important steps to be taken locally, as well, and weaning our nation off its long dependence on fossil fuels requires action on multiple fronts. That includes in Connecticut, which has set ambitious targets for switching to renewable energy but has plenty of work to meet those goals.”
