COUNTY PLANNERS RAISE CONCERNS OVER MINAVILLE ROAD SOLAR PROJECT

5 December 2017 by DSR

“Montgomery County planners are raising safety concerns regarding the construction of a solar farm in the town of Florida.
The topic was raised at the county’s monthly planning board meeting despite the absence of four members. According to present board members and an alternate member, the solar farm could potentially serve as a distraction for drivers.
“I was driving north on 30 and it’s a glass mountain,” board member David Wiener said. “It’s already starting to reflect and they only have like 20 percent of it up. This is huge and there’s a big hill and it’s the whole side of the hill — all of it. Go visit it. It’s a mess.”
The 2.8 megawatt solar farm is located on approximately 94 acres at 5813 Minaville Road. The project by Borrego Solar Systems utilizes 8,400 solar panels.
Montgomery County Amanda Bearcroft said that when the plan was approved late last year at the county level, it was understood that some sort of screening would be installed.”
